In 1972 Naila Kettaneh Kunigk founded Galerie Tanit in Munich showing contemporary art in Munich,Germany. Walther Mollier who had been working with the gallery since its beginnings, became a partner in 1981. During the 1980s and early 1990s Galerie Tanit became one of the few galleries of the Munich art scene to show an international program of American Minimalism, Italian Arte Povera and exponents of diverse practices in current painting and photography. Galerie Tanit started taking part in Art Basel in 1974 and early on participated in Art Cologne, Art Chicago and the Amory show in New York. After establishing a branch in Cologne in 1989 and closing it in 1994. Galerie Tanit proceeded to show Lebanese artists in Germany from 2004 onwards. 2007 saw the establishment of a gallery showroom in Beirut with a varied international program.

Mark Hachem is an art gallery between Paris and Beirut with a focus towards becoming a platform for Arab Modernist and Contemporary art. Art on 56th Gallery is an independent visual art gallery in Beirut, Lebanon. It was founded by Noha Wadi Moharram in 2012, and is rooted in Gemmayzeh, the capital’s booming artistic and cultural neighborhood.

In addition to presenting a roster of local artists to an international audience, the gallery’s mission is to promote both established and emerging contemporary artists from the Middle East and beyond. This results in a colorful exchange, highlighting the powerful meaning of images and creativity within a society.

The gallery exhibits artworks in a large variety of media, including painting, sculpture, work on paper, photography and video installation.

Nadine Majdalani Begdache transformed the cultural center founded by her mother in the 1960’s
(Dar Al Fan) into an art gallery and named it after her mother ‘Galerie Janine Rubeiz’ in 1992.
The gallery has been playing a crucial role in encouraging Lebanese modern and contemporary art and aiding it in penetrating the global art scene.

Over the year, Galerie Janine Rubeiz has expanded its activities and presence through participating in prestigious fairs (Europ’ Art – Geneva, Art Paris – Paris, Star’t Art – Strasbourg, Art Paris – Abu Dhabi – Art Dubai Dubai – Abu Dhabi Art – Abu Dhabi) and curator art events 40 ans d’Art Contemporain Libanais – Geneva, Visages Francophones – Cahors, France, Women by Women, Lebanese American University – Beirut, Artists View II – London, Pinceaux pour Plumes, Sursock Museum – Beirut) . The gallery also ensured to invest efforts in promoting the cultural heritage of Lebanon, in 2016 the gallery organized an exhibition titled “Bitasarof” that aimed at collecting proceeds from the works sold by artists commissioned for the national library to fund it.

Artists of the Gallery such as Shafic Abboud, Etel Adnan, Zad Moultaka ,Huguette Caland have all gained undeniable support from the French Cultural Scene and have become influential artists on the global art Platform . In 2017, Zad Moultaka , represented the Lebanese Pavilion at the Venice Biennale and gained Global Praise from the project he conceived .Over the years, the gallery has also emphasized the importance of exposing international artists to the Lebanese Public, by exhibiting artists such as Antonio Segui, Jean Giraud Moebus and several others at gallery.

Despite the Political instability Lebanon Faces, the gallery is keen on achieving its mission through continuing on discovering and promoting emerging artists. The gallery is proud to have maintained impressionable ties with France’s diplomatic representatives in Lebanon through the years and hopes for prosperous dialogues for the art culture in Lebanon.
